Lead with GRIT.
There are four pillars that set a foundation for success in everything you do, as an individual or as a team. Grit, Resilience, Compassion and Preparedness. Develop yourself and your teams by building a solid foundation first!
Being a loved leader is not a sign of weakness, it projects authenticity, trustworthiness, and sometimes vulnerability. Becoming a loved leader who knows their people’s needs, shows honesty and integrity, and keeps the team moving onward and upward!
In order to be an effective leader in the long term, you HAVE TO TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF FIRST! If you’re not taking care of yourself, you won’t be ABLE to take care of the team. And this all starts with one “domino.” Decide what that domino is.
Jon Macaskill (muh-KAS-kill) is a retired Navy SEAL. Jon has served in Iraq, Afghanistan, off the coast of Somalia, and in Panama. After retiring, he served as the Deputy Executive Director and podcast host and producer for Veteran’s PATH, a nonprofit organization that works to introduce meditation and mindfulness to veterans to bring them a sense of Peace, Acceptance, Transformation, and Honor. Jon now does keynote speaking engagements on developing leadership, grit, and resilience at the individual and organizational levels. He also owns his own mindfulness consulting company, Macaskill Consulting, LLC, bringing mindfulness and meditation to high performing teams to aid in dealing with stress, anxiety and depression all while increasing focus, creativity, and productivity.
Jon Macaskill is an accomplished Sailor, Leader, Father, Husband. Pound for pound one of the most passionate people I’ve ever met. Truly cares about his fellow brother and sister Veterans. Leads by example, and is not afraid to take the “hard right” over the easy wrong. Integrity is beyond reproach. Confident yet humble; a silent professional that his actions speak volumes! If you’re a transitioning Veteran and looking for someone to emulate, provide direction, motivation, and purpose, then Jon is definitely your man! Jason C. Scott, Home Loan Lender

Jon is a master of connecting and mobilizing a group. He initiated group connections and discussions for our cohort, which resulted in us immediately and meaningfully gelling. Jon brought us together and never missed a beat on making sure we took advantage of every opportunity. He is unselfish and thoughtful; always there to lend a hand, and made a point to show his appreciation for those who helped him.
Jon is one of the most driven people I have ever met. As a SEAL/Naval Officer, he is detail-oriented, hard-working, and deeply committed. He is incredibly selfless. His care and passion for helping others succeed are amazing. When you meet Jon for the first time, he makes you feel like you’ve known each other for ages. When he sets his mind to something, watch out! He’ll under-promise and over-deliver on everything he sets out to do!
